Somerset Willow Basket

Inspired by the character of antique garden baskets, our Somerset Willow Basket brings together locally grown willow, steam-bent ash and traditional metalwork. For gathering apples, bringing cut flowers indoors or carrying tools out to the vegetable patch, it is a beautiful, useful companion to everyday life in the garden.

Each basket is handwoven for Claverton by Florence Hamer in her Somerset workshop, using Dicky Meadows willow, chosen for its fine, slender stems and soft greenish hue. A steam-bent ash handle forms a generous curve above the weave, while a forged metal brace adds strength and a distinctive detail inspired by an antique basket.

Made in small numbers, with all the care and attention that hand weaving deserves, this is a piece rooted in Somerset and our love of traditional gardenware. Equally at home in the kitchen garden or filled with flowers on the kitchen table, it is made to be used, loved and treasured for years.

As each basket is woven by hand using natural materials, small variations in colour and form are part of its individual character.
